Book 2, Ships and the Sea represents the first major departure from the classic Traveller model.  Like its predecessor, the first portion of the book will deal with various craft in play.  However, rather than presenting rules for the creation of various maritime craft, it will present standardised templates for contemporary craft of all varieties - freighters, trawlers, patrol boats, fishing skiffs, small submarines, etc, as well as equipment lists.  The second portion of the book will present detailed rules for operating maritime craft, inter-ship combat, and underwater operations, including sea-born encounter tables dealing with the risks involved with travel and work at sea.

Some inspirational sources on the Internet:

  • Ship Traders, an online clearinghouse for boats and ships of all kinds
  • Convoy Web, a website detailing WWII ship convoys
  • NOAA Ocean Explorer technology page, featuring a variety of ships, submersibles, and diving equipment
  • US Submarines, manufacturers of civilian submarines
